USA Volleyball places players by birth date, with July 1 as the cut-off, in divisions from 8 & Under up; the net and the ball change at 10 & Under, at 11 and 12, and again at 13 and 14.

The age at a glance

The game
USA Volleyball's youth rules, written for ages 3 to 11: two, three or four players a side on a court four meters wide, and a light version of the adult ball.
Net and ball
A net from five to six feet for younger players; in 10 & Under competition the net is 6 ft 6 in and the ball is the VB-Lite.
Serving and blocking
A young server gets two chances at the toss and the service line can move into the court (two meters in, at 10 & Under events); only one player jumps to block.
At home
SSTracker keeps one home session for this age within 30 minutes and plans at most 3 days a week. Practice at home adds to team practice, so on a busy week use fewer home days.
