Coach questions

Questions coaches ask

Running your team is free. Here is how it works, what it costs if you want training at home (from $29 a month for a club), and how we keep kids safe.

Is SSTracker free for coaches?

Yes. Running a team is free, always: roster, schedule, team messages, team fees and the parent portal, with no seat limit and no per-player charge. Training at home (Player OS) is the optional paid part, and families can turn it on for their own child if your club does not.

How do I run a youth team for free?

Tap "Set up your team free", name your team and pick your sport. You get a roster, a schedule, team messages and team fees at no cost, and you invite families with a link or by uploading your roster from a spreadsheet. Your team takes families once you are cleared.

Do I need a club to use SSTracker?

No. An independent team works on its own: the coach who starts it also gets a Team admin role for the paperwork (people, money, fields and events). Switch to it from your name at the top of the screen.

How do background checks work for coaches?

Your team takes no families until you are cleared: by a background check, or by a clearance your association or league already gave you, which is confirmed with that association before it counts. A check is charged at cost, the provider's price plus card processing, shown before anyone pays. You can set your team up while you wait.

How do team fees work? Can parents pay by Venmo?

Yes. In Team money, add your Venmo username, Zelle email or a note for checks; parents tap "I paid the team" and you confirm when the money is in, and SSTracker takes nothing from it. For card payments, families pay the listed price and the team receives it minus 3.4% + 30¢ in total, card processing included.

Does SSTracker replace our team app?

It can. Rosters, schedules, messages and registration are free, card payments carry one all-in fee, and SSTracker adds training at home that parents can see. You do not have to move everything at once: start one team and keep your other tools as long as you like.

How do I send homework to my players?

Open Training, then Homework, and send a short drill to the team or one player. Parents see it in Train together with your coaching cue and a part to play. Homework follows what you worked on at practice.

What coaches get

What do parents see?

Each parent sees the schedule, team messages and their own child: homework, progress and the words you write when you tap "Seen it". No parent sees another child's numbers, and no screen ranks one child against another.

The parent view

Can I message my players?

You can send team announcements, and parents always get a copy. No coach can send a private one-to-one message to a child; every message is recorded. That is SafeSport's rule, and SSTracker enforces it for you.

How we follow SafeSport

Are the drills right for my players' age?

Every drill is checked against the age rules sports bodies and children's doctors publish, and the app holds back what a team is too young for, everywhere: no heading in soccer before 12, and tackling and blocking technique from 14. If we do not know a player's age, we hold back anything that waits for an older age.

What sports does SSTracker support?

22 sports, each with its own drills by age and skill: Basketball, Soccer, Baseball, Softball, Football, Tennis, Lacrosse, Swimming, Water Polo, Volleyball, Hockey, Gymnastics, Cheer, Diving, Bowling, Rugby, Flag Football, Field Hockey, Wrestling, Track and Field, Cross Country and Golf. Every drill is checked against its sport's age rules, so a player only sees what is right for their age.

How do I invite another coach?

Use the "Invite another coach" card on your home screen: it gives you a link and a message ready to paste. It goes from you to another adult, and nobody is rewarded for it.

How do I add my players?

Invite each family with a link, or upload your roster from a spreadsheet. A parent then approves their child's account, and nothing is collected from a child before that. Invites to parents last 14 days and you can cancel one at any time.

What does Player OS add, and who pays for it?

Player OS is training at home: drills, homework, progress and the parent view for every player. A club pays a flat price, never per seat: Base Camp $29 a month (up to 30 players), Club $59 a month (up to 100 players), Pro $99 a month (unlimited players), after a 30-day free trial with no card. Or a family turns it on for its own child for $7.50 a month.

Can I show parents where the field is?

Yes. In Game day, then Fields, find your field by address or park name, outline it on the satellite map and add notes like parking. Tap "Make home field", and each practice or game shows parents the place with a Directions link.

Can I use the drills without an account?

Yes. The drill library, the age pages, the weekly workouts and the printables on this site are free and need no account. Sign up when you want to send them as homework and see who did them.
