Game version
Beam buddies: walk the line or low beam while a partner cheers each steady step. Swap, and the pair collects ten steady crossings.
Lift into a scale on a floor line, with your back leg higher than an arabesque.
By Coach Evan Waechtler Youth coach (U11, Cache Valley, Utah) and founder of SSTracker Updated October 30, 2026
Set up
Stand on the line with arms out.
Core: Low beam. Beat your own best steady crossing.
The steps
Coaching point
Chest and leg rise and fall together.
Safety: Lift only as high as feels easy in your back. Keep a wall within reach. Pain in your lower back, worse when you bend back, is never normal: stop and tell a parent or coach. Keep back bends few and gentle.
Make it fun

Challenge
Pick a level: Less (a wide line), Core (low beam), More (add a turn). Beat your own best steady crossing.
Story
You are a tightrope walker over a canyon, calm and steady.
My best
Beat your own best steady crossing. Only your own number counts: today against last time.
