The steps

How it works

  1. Mark a 10 by 15 yard channel.
  2. Attack the defender and try to stop the ball on the end line.
  3. Change speed and direction to unbalance them.
  4. Swap roles each rep; do 10 attacks.

Coaching point

Attack the front foot, then change pace.

Safety: No slide tackles in this drill.

Make it fun

Play it, don't drill it

Game version

End-line game: in teams of two, the attacker dribbles to the line while the defender shadows without tackling. Swap each time, and each team beats its own count.

Challenge

Pick a level: Less (defender walks), Core (jogs), More (shadows closely). Beat your own count of crossings.

Story

You are a knight crossing the bridge past a friendly guard.

My best

Beat your own count

Beat your own count of crossings. Only your own number counts: today against last time.
