The steps

How it works

  1. Put a ball on the grass in front of you.
  2. Walk to it, bend your knees, put your top hand near the head of the stick.
  3. Scoop through the ball and pull the stick up to your ear.
  4. Do 15 scoops, then 15 with the other hand on top.

Coaching point

Knees bent, stick low, pull to the ear.

Safety: No body contact: go for the ball, never the player. Helmet and gloves on when a partner rolls the ball.

Make it fun

Play it, don't drill it

Game version

Scoop game: a partner rolls the ball and you scoop it on the move with nobody contesting it. The pair counts clean scoops, then swaps.

Challenge

Pick a level: Less (slow roll), Core (medium), More (to your side). Beat your own best out of 10.

Story

You are a gardener scooping up the golden apples.

Beat your own best out of 10. Only your own number counts: today against last time.
