The steps

How it works

  1. Kick up to a handstand with your belly facing the wall.
  2. Open into a straddle, then close.
  3. Split your legs front and back, then close.
  4. Do 3 sets of 4 shapes, stepping down between sets.

Coaching point

Legs move, shoulders stay.

Safety: Use a clear wall with a soft mat under your hands. Warm up your wrists first and stop if they hurt. Come down by stepping one foot at a time. Have a grown-up nearby.

Make it fun

Play it, don't drill it

Game version

Beam buddies: walk the line or low beam while a partner cheers each steady step. Swap, and the pair collects ten steady crossings.

Challenge

Pick a level: Less (a wide line), Core (low beam), More (add a turn). Beat your own best steady crossing.

Story

You are a tightrope walker over a canyon, calm and steady.

My best

Beat your own count

Beat your own best steady crossing. Only your own number counts: today against last time.
