Balloon Pass Keep-Up

Keep a balloon up in the air by tapping it with both hands together. A slow balloon gives a young child time to move to it.

The steps

How it works

  1. Blow up a balloon (a grown-up ties it).
  2. Your child taps it up with both hands together.
  3. Count the taps before it touches the floor.
  4. Try tapping it with flat arms, like a volleyball pass.

Coaching point

Praise the try: “You moved your feet to get under it!”

Safety: A grown-up blows up and ties the balloon, and picks up every piece if it pops: balloon pieces are a choking risk.

Make it fun

Play it, don't drill it

Game version

Play “Balloon Pass Keep-Up” to a song. When the music plays you play, and when it stops you freeze like a statue, then start again.

Story

You are a lion cub at a party, and “Balloon Pass Keep-Up” is your dance.
