The steps

How it works

  1. Stand at a line in an open yard with nobody in front.
  2. Your child throws a sock ball overhand, as far as they can.
  3. Mark where it lands with a shoe.
  4. Try to beat their own mark with the next throw.

Coaching point

Praise the try: “Great big step and throw!”

Safety: Soft things only, thrown into open space, never at a person. Fetch together after every throw.

Make it fun

Play it, don't drill it

Game version

Play “Sock Ball Throw” to a song. When the music plays you play, and when it stops you freeze like a statue, then start again.

Story

You are a dinosaur at a party, and “Sock Ball Throw” is your dance.
