The steps

How it works

  1. Put a bucket 3 yards away.
  2. Toss 10 beanbags underhand and count the makes.
  3. Step back and throw 10 overhand.
  4. Try to beat your own score next time.

Coaching point

Look, step, toss.

Safety: Use a foam or soft implement, throw toward an empty open space, and wait until everyone is behind you.

Make it fun

Play it, don't drill it

Game version

Target throws: throw soft implements to a target zone only when the coach calls. Everyone throws, then everyone retrieves together. The pair keeps one total.

Challenge

Pick a zone: Less (big), Core (medium), More (small). Beat your own best out of 6.

Story

You are a hero throwing a stone across the river.

My best

Beat your own count

Beat your own best out of 6. Only your own number counts: today against last time.
