Wall Volley Punches

Short punch volleys against a wall without letting the ball bounce, to learn a volley is a block, not a swing.

The steps

How it works

  1. Stand 3 big steps from a wall with the racket up.
  2. Push a gentle volley at the wall and punch the return back.
  3. Keep the racket head above your wrist.
  4. Count your best run out of 5 tries.

Coaching point

Short punch, racket up.

Safety: Use the ball and court for your age: red ball on a short court at 8 and under, orange at 9 to 10, green at 10 to 12.

Make it fun

Play it, don't drill it

Game version

Volley rally: a pair volleys back and forth and counts clean volleys in a row, then swaps.

Challenge

Pick a level: Less (close and slow), Core (medium), More (a step back). Beat your own longest run of volleys.

Story

You are a castle guard at the net, keeping every ball in play.

My best

Beat your own count

Beat your own longest run of volleys. Only your own number counts: today against last time.
