The steps

How it works

  1. Stand side-on, the ball in your tossing hand.
  2. Toss straight up, a little in front, as your other arm bends back into the trophy pose.
  3. Let the ball drop; it should land just in front of your front foot.
  4. Do 3 sets of 10 and count good tosses.

Coaching point

Lift the toss, do not throw it.

Safety: Clear a small space with nothing to trip on or knock over. Stop if anything hurts.

Make it fun

Play it, don't drill it

Game version

Target-box serving: two teams of two take turns serving into target boxes. Each team counts only its own boxes hit.

Challenge

Pick a box: Less (big), Core (medium), More (small). Beat your own best out of 10.

Story

You are opening the match with a serve that lands exactly on the line.

Beat your own best out of 10. Only your own number counts: today against last time.
