The steps

How it works

  1. Draw a hopscotch grid.
  2. Toss a marker into a square.
  3. Hop and jump through the grid, skipping the square with the marker.
  4. Play 10 turns, taking turns with a family member.

Coaching point

Light and bouncy.

Safety: Land softly on grass or a mat, knees over toes, never caving in. Keep the number of jumps low. Stop if knees, shins or ankles hurt.

Make it fun

Play it, don't drill it

Game version

Make-your-own hopscotch: a pair draws a course and takes turns, adding one square each round.

Challenge

Pick a course: Less (short), Core (medium), More (add a spin). Keep each landing steady.

Story

You are a kangaroo hopping across moon rocks.

My best

Beat your own count

Keep each landing steady. Only your own number counts: today against last time.
