The steps

How it works

  1. Hold the ball overhead with straight arms and rise up on your toes.
  2. Pull it down hard into the ground in front of you.
  3. Catch it on the bounce or pick it up.
  4. Do 3 sets of 8.

Coaching point

Tall, then crunch and slam.

Safety: Use your body weight or a light ball only. Good form matters more than more reps. Use a soft ball that does not bounce back into your face.

Make it fun

Play it, don't drill it

Game version

Base-path follow-the-leader: one person leads a movement between the bases and the group copies. Swap the leader each time.

Challenge

Pick a level: Less (slower or smaller), Core (as written), More (one extra twist). Aim for smooth form and compare only with your own last time.

Story

You are a base runner exploring the diamond.

Beat your own count

Aim for smooth form and compare only with your own last time. Only your own number counts: today against last time.
