The steps

How it works

  1. Set 4 cones in a square around a middle cone, 5 yards out.
  2. Run from the middle to touch one outside cone with your hand.
  3. Turn and come back to the middle.
  4. Visit all 4 cones, rest, and repeat 4 times.

Coaching point

Get low before you turn.

Safety: Warm up first and run on grass or a flat, dry surface. Walk back between reps and stop if anything hurts. On hot days drink water and rest in the shade; if you hear thunder, go inside.

Make it fun

Play it, don't drill it

Game version

Star-cone touch game: a partner calls a cone, and you run, touch it and turn back to the center. Your pair collects ten touches.

Challenge

Pick a level: Less (walk), Core (jog), More (call two cones in a row). Aim for sharp turns.

Story

You are a bee visiting flowers in a star garden and coming home to the hive.

My best

Beat your own count

Aim for sharp turns. Only your own number counts: today against last time.
