Five-Ten-Five Technique Rehearsal

Practice the 5-10-5 pattern with clean, low turns before ever timing it. Then time a few and beat only your own best.

The steps

How it works

  1. Set three cones in a line, 5 yards apart; start at the middle one.
  2. Run 5 yards right, touch the line with your outside hand, turn low.
  3. Run 10 yards to the far cone, touch, turn, run 5 back through the middle.
  4. Do 3 walk-throughs, 3 at three-quarter speed, then 2 timed with full rest.

Coaching point

Low turn, push off the outside foot.

Safety: Use a clear, non-slip space and change direction only as fast as you can control. Stop if a knee or ankle hurts.

Make it fun

Play it, don't drill it

Game version

Rehearsal pairs: walk the 5-10-5 pattern while a partner looks for low, clean turns and shares one thing they liked. Swap.

Challenge

Pick a level: Less (walk the pattern), Core (jog), More (one timed run, compared only with your own best). Quality first.

Story

You are a dancer rehearsing a routine until each turn is smooth.

My best

Beat your own count

Quality first. Only your own number counts: today against last time.
