The steps

How it works

  1. Place the ball on the ground.
  2. Step over it low, pick it up with two hands and tuck it in.
  3. Take 3 strong steps, then place it again.
  4. Do 12 reps, no opposition.

Coaching point

Low pick, strong steps.

Safety: No opponent at this stage. Keep your back flat and bend your knees.

Make it fun

Play it, don't drill it

Game version

Ball-presentation game: place the ball and set a strong base while a partner reads your position aloud, with no contact. Swap.

Challenge

Pick a level: Less (slow), Core (steady), More (a quick reset). Beat your own steadiest base.
