The steps

How it works

  1. Place a ball on the ground in front of you.
  2. Step over it with feet wide, hips low and back flat, chest over the ball.
  3. Grip the ball with both hands and lift it to your chest.
  4. Do 12 reps, holding the shape 3 seconds each.

Coaching point

Hips low, hands on the ball.

Safety: No opponent at this stage. Keep your back flat, bend your knees and stop if your back hurts. Contesting a real ball is only with a coach.

Make it fun

Play it, don't drill it

Game version

Ball-presentation game: place the ball and set a strong base while a partner reads your position aloud, with no contact. Swap.

Challenge

Pick a level: Less (slow), Core (steady), More (a quick reset). Beat your own steadiest base.

Story

You are a builder laying a firm foundation.

Beat your own count

Beat your own steadiest base. Only your own number counts: today against last time.
