Call It and Box Out

Talk the ground ball: call "ball", get your body between the ball and a cone, and scoop, without touching anyone.

The steps

How it works

  1. A coach rolls the ball into a box of cones.
  2. Call "ball!" loudly as you go.
  3. Step your body between the ball and the nearest cone, then scoop.
  4. Do 12 reps; the partner only calls "release" and never touches you.

Coaching point

Talk, position, scoop.

Safety: No body contact: go for the ball, never the player. Helmet and gloves on when a partner rolls the ball.

Make it fun

Play it, don't drill it

Game version

Scoop game: a partner rolls the ball and you scoop it on the move with nobody contesting it. The pair counts clean scoops, then swaps.

Challenge

Pick a level: Less (slow roll), Core (medium), More (to your side). Beat your own best out of 10.

Story

You are a gardener scooping up the golden apples.
