The steps

How it works

  1. Stand in front of the goal with your stick head up by your shoulder.
  2. A parent tosses soft balls to different spots.
  3. Step to the ball with your top hand and stick together.
  4. Do 30 tosses.

Coaching point

Watch it into your pocket.

Safety: Goalies wear a helmet, throat guard, chest protector and gloves. Start with soft balls and slow shots.

Make it fun

Play it, don't drill it

Game version

Shadow game: stay between your partner and the goal with your stick in a good spot, with no checking. Swap often.

Challenge

Pick a level: Less (partner walks), Core (jogs), More (changes direction). Beat your own run of steady shadows.

Story

You are a castle guard holding the bridge.

My best

Beat your own count

Beat your own run of steady shadows. Only your own number counts: today against last time.
