The steps

How it works

  1. Put cones in a half circle 3 feet in front of the goal.
  2. A partner walks the ball from one side to the other.
  3. Step along the arc to stay lined up with the ball.
  4. Do 6 trips.

Coaching point

Ball, you, middle of the goal.

Safety: Goalies wear a helmet, throat guard, chest protector and gloves. Start with soft balls and slow shots.

Make it fun

Play it, don't drill it

Game version

Shadow game: stay between your partner and the goal with your stick in a good spot, with no checking. Swap often.

Challenge

Pick a level: Less (partner walks), Core (jogs), More (changes direction). Beat your own run of steady shadows.

Story

You are a castle guard holding the bridge.
