The steps

How it works

  1. Give your child a short plastic stick and a soft ball.
  2. Show how to keep the stick blade on the ground.
  3. They push the ball gently along to a cone and back.
  4. Try little pushes on both sides of the ball.

Coaching point

Praise the try: “Stick down low, great pushing!”

Safety: The tool stays low, and everyone else stands back, clear of the swing. A soft ball only, on grass or a smooth driveway.

Make it fun

Play it, don't drill it

Game version

Make “Floor Hockey Push” a team game: you and a grown-up are on the same team and cheer for each other.

Story
