The steps

How it works

  1. Hit 3 balls at half speed.
  2. Hit 3 at three-quarter speed.
  3. Hit 3 at full speed.
  4. Note the fastest speed where you still hit the center, and stay there.

Coaching point

Fast, but in balance.

Safety: Warm up first and move slowly. Keep full swings to about 30 balls a session for young players, then rest. Stop if your back, wrists or shoulders hurt. Keep everyone clear before every swing: look in front and behind, and make sure no one is within two club lengths. Swing only where a coach or parent says it is safe.

Make it fun

Play it, don't drill it

Game version

Course follow-the-leader: one person leads a gentle movement and the group copies, standing well apart. Swap the leader each time.

Challenge

Pick a level: Less (slower or smaller), Core (as written), More (one extra twist). Aim for smooth form and compare only with your own last time.

Story

You are an explorer crossing the course like a jungle.

My best

Beat your own count

Aim for smooth form and compare only with your own last time. Only your own number counts: today against last time.
