The steps

How it works

  1. Stand a step from the post with your stick down.
  2. A parent rolls the ball across the front of the goal.
  3. Tap it in with the flat side.
  4. Count goals out of 20.

Coaching point

Stick down, be ready.

Safety: Keep the ball on the ground. Never raise it toward a person. Shoot only at an empty goal, or at a goalkeeper in full kit with a coach running it. Nobody downfield or behind the goal.

Make it fun

Play it, don't drill it

Game version

Target-corner game: two teams of two take turns shooting at corner targets. Each team counts only its own hits.

Challenge

Pick a target: Less (big), Core (medium), More (small). Beat your own best out of 10.

Story

You are a goal hunter, and each corner is a treasure chest.

Beat your own best out of 10. Only your own number counts: today against last time.
