The steps

How it works

  1. Stand in a wide stance holding the ball overhead.
  2. Toss it softly just above your hands.
  3. Grab it hard with two hands and pull it to your chin, elbows out.
  4. Land in a wide stance; do 3 sets of 10.

Coaching point

Two hands, chin it, elbows out.

Safety: Keep the toss small and away from lights and shelves.

Make it fun

Play it, don't drill it

Game version

Bounce hunt: a partner tosses the ball off the wall or backboard and you track it and catch it with two hands. Swap, and count catches together.

Challenge

Pick a level: Less (low toss), Core (medium), More (a higher toss). Beat your own best catches out of 10.

Story

You are an eagle watching for the ball to drop from the sky.
