The steps

How it works

  1. Set 5 low foam hurdles or rolled towels at a short spacing that is easy to run between.
  2. Run in and take the same steps between each hurdle.
  3. Attack each one with your lead knee.
  4. Do 6 runs and adjust spacing if you have to reach.

Coaching point

Same steps, same rhythm.

Safety: Use soft foam or fold-down hurdles set low for your age. Stop if your hips or hamstrings feel tight. If you fall and hit your head, stop and see a doctor.

Make it fun

Play it, don't drill it

Game version

Hurdle rhythm: a partner claps the 1-2-3 rhythm as you step over low hurdles. Swap.

Challenge

Pick a level: Less (one hurdle, walking), Core (three, jogging), More (five). Beat your own steadiest rhythm.

Story

You are a horse stepping over fences in a meadow.
