Standing Shot Push

Push a soft medicine ball from your neck using your legs and hips, not just your arm: the shot put action without the shot.

The steps

How it works

  1. Tuck the ball against your neck, elbow high.
  2. Turn your hips and chest to the front.
  3. Push the ball up and out at a high angle.
  4. Do 12 pushes; a real shot only at practice, with your coach.

Coaching point

Neck, hips, push.

Safety: Only in a cleared throwing sector with a coach watching. Nobody stands in front, and you walk out to fetch only when the coach says so. Never throw a real implement at home.

Make it fun

Play it, don't drill it

Game version

Target throws: throw soft implements to a target zone only when the coach calls. Everyone throws, then everyone retrieves together. The pair keeps one total.

Challenge

Pick a zone: Less (big), Core (medium), More (small). Beat your own best out of 6.

Story

You are a hero throwing a stone across the river.
