The steps

How it works

  1. Hold the foam javelin back, arm long, palm up.
  2. Take three rhythm steps: right, left, right (left-handers the opposite).
  3. Pull through high over your shoulder and let go.
  4. Do 12 throws; fetch only on the coach's call.

Coaching point

Long arm, pull high.

Safety: Only in a cleared throwing sector with a coach watching. Nobody stands in front, and you walk out to fetch only when the coach says so. Never throw a real implement at home.

Make it fun

Play it, don't drill it

Game version

Target throws: throw soft implements to a target zone only when the coach calls. Everyone throws, then everyone retrieves together. The pair keeps one total.

Challenge

Pick a zone: Less (big), Core (medium), More (small). Beat your own best out of 6.

Story

You are a hero throwing a stone across the river.
