Flutter Kicks on the Floor

On land: lie on the tummy on a rug and kick the legs up and down, small and fast, like swimming. Practice the kick at home, on dry land.

The steps

How it works

  1. Your child lies on their tummy on a soft rug or towel.
  2. Arms stretch out in front like a superhero.
  3. Kick the legs up and down, small and fast, toes pointed.
  4. Kick for a count of 10, rest, and go again 4 times.

Coaching point

Praise the try: “Pointy toes, great kicking!”

Safety: On land, on a soft rug or towel, with nothing to bump into.
