The steps

How it works

  1. Mark a target zone of 4 cones 25 steps or more away.
  2. Hold the ball out in front, drop it and kick it with your laces before it lands.
  3. For a drop-kick, strike it just as it bounces.
  4. Do 10 of each and count how many land in the zone.

Coaching point

Drop it, do not throw it; laces through the ball.

Safety: Make sure no one is standing in front of the goal or the wall before you strike.

Make it fun

Play it, don't drill it

Game version

Distance-zone game: take turns punting or drop-kicking to a landing zone far away. Pairs keep one total.

Challenge

Pick a zone: Less (near), Core (medium), More (far). Beat your own best out of 6.

Story

You are a catapult launching the ball across the field.

My best

Beat your own count

Beat your own best out of 6. Only your own number counts: today against last time.
