The steps

How it works

  1. Mark a corridor 3 steps wide and 8 steps long.
  2. Your parent walks or jogs down it with the ball; you face them, side-on, low.
  3. Shuffle back to stay in front, never crossing your feet.
  4. On a clap, switch which foot leads. Do 6 rounds of 20 seconds.

Coaching point

Side-on, low, never cross your feet.

Safety: No contact and no tackling: the parent or partner only moves, calls or rolls the ball.

Make it fun

Play it, don't drill it

Game version

Corridor guard: stay side-on in a narrow corridor and switch your lead leg when your partner claps. Swap roles. No contact.

Challenge

Levels: Less (partner walks), Core (jogs), More (changes direction). Beat your own run of patient shadows.

Story

You are a castle guard holding the bridge: patient, not rushing.

My best

Beat your own count

Beat your own run of patient shadows. Only your own number counts: today against last time.
