The steps

How it works

  1. Four defenders stand in a line across a 35-yard area.
  2. A coach moves the ball between wide cones.
  3. The line slides toward the ball, staying 8 to 10 yards apart.
  4. Do 20 shifts, then add a passing attacker.

Coaching point

Move as one, ball side.

Make it fun

Play it, don't drill it

Game version

Slide-together game: a line of defenders shifts to match a ball passed by a coach or parent, and the line scores each time everyone stays one step apart.

Challenge

Levels: Less (walk), Core (jog), More (change direction). Beat your own best run of perfect slides.

You are a school of fish turning together in the sea.
