The steps

How it works

  1. Lie on your back on soft grass or a mat, arms stretched above.
  2. Keep the body long and straight like a log.
  3. Roll sideways all the way to the end of the mat.
  4. Roll back the other way. Do about 4 rolls each way.

Coaching point

Praise the try: “So long and straight, great log!”

Safety: Sideways rolls only, on grass or a mat, with nothing to bump into. No forward rolls, flips or handstands at home.

Make it fun

Play it, don't drill it

Game version

Make “Log Roll” a team game: you and a grown-up are on the same team and cheer for each other.

Story

You and a grown-up are explorers, and “Log Roll” is the map to the treasure.
