The steps

How it works

  1. Stand in front of a low, steady step.
  2. Step up with one foot and bring the other to meet it.
  3. Rise onto your toes and swing your arms up by your ears.
  4. Step down slowly; do 12.

Coaching point

Step, meet, rise.

Safety: Use a mat or soft floor with space all around you. Stop if anything hurts.

Make it fun

Play it, don't drill it

Game version

Takeoff statue: on dry land, practice the takeoff and freeze in the shape while a partner gives a thumbs-up for tall posture. Swap.

Challenge

Pick a level: Less (on the deck), Core (from a low step), More (with your coach watching at the board). Beat your own tallest finish.

Story

You are a spring that launches and holds its shape.
