Slow-Motion Approach

Walk the whole approach in slow motion on a taped line so the timing of the steps and the swing is the same every time.

The steps

How it works

  1. Tape a straight line about 12 feet long and mark your starting spot.
  2. Say the steps out loud: push away, swing, slide.
  3. Walk your steps slowly with no ball, swinging an empty hand like a pendulum.
  4. Finish balanced for two seconds, then repeat 8 times.

Coaching point

Slow is smooth, and smooth is accurate.

Safety: At home, practice with no ball or a light soft object, on a clear floor with nothing to trip on.

Make it fun

Play it, don't drill it

Game version

Footwork dance: walk your approach to a rhythm your partner claps and freeze at the foul line with a balanced finish. Swap.

Challenge

Pick a level: Less (no ball), Core (a light ball), More (your own ball at a relaxed pace). Beat your own steadiest finish.

Story

You are a dancer sliding to a perfect stop.
