The steps

How it works

  1. Hold the edge of the pool with both hands, back upright.
  2. Take turns circling each leg under you.
  3. Try to lighten your grip as your legs take over.
  4. Kick for 20 seconds, rest 20; do 6.

Coaching point

Sit in the water like a chair.

Safety: Swim only with a lifeguard or coach watching and, under 14, a grown-up within arm’s reach.

Make it fun

Play it, don't drill it

Game version

Eggbeater catch: tread with an eggbeater kick while a partner tosses you a ball. The pair counts steady catches, then swaps, with a coach watching.

Challenge

Pick a level: Less (hands on the wall), Core (hands up), More (catch and pass without sinking). Beat your own best run.

Story

You are a lighthouse standing tall in the water.

My best

Beat your own count

Beat your own best run. Only your own number counts: today against last time.
