The steps

How it works

  1. Lay 6 hoops or chalk circles in a line, evenly spaced.
  2. Run through, one foot in each.
  3. Say "one, two, three" between them if they are spaced wider.
  4. Do 8 runs.

Coaching point

Same beat every time.

Safety: Warm up fully first. Run on flat, dry ground and stop if a muscle feels tight.

Make it fun

Play it, don't drill it

Game version

Hurdle rhythm: a partner claps the 1-2-3 rhythm as you step over low hurdles. Swap.

Challenge

Pick a level: Less (one hurdle, walking), Core (three, jogging), More (five). Beat your own steadiest rhythm.

Story

You are a horse stepping over fences in a meadow.

My best

Beat your own count

Beat your own steadiest rhythm. Only your own number counts: today against last time.
