The steps

How it works

  1. Pick one event.
  2. Write one cue for the start, one for the middle and one for the finish.
  3. Read it before a practice swim.
  4. Afterwards, note what you actually did.

Coaching point

One cue per part of the race.

Make it fun

Play it, don't drill it

Game version

Picture-it pairs: on the deck, tell your partner what your perfect swim looks like, then swap. Breathe slowly together first.

Challenge

Pick a level: Less (one deep breath), Core (three), More (picture a full swim). Beat your own calm.

Story

You are a movie director picturing your best swim.
