The steps

How it works

  1. Swim 4 x 50 yards.
  2. Aim for the same time on every 50.
  3. Rest 30 seconds between each.
  4. Write down the splits and compare.

Coaching point

Smooth and steady beats fast then slow.

Safety: Swim only with a lifeguard on duty, a coach or adult nearby and, under 14, a grown-up within arm’s reach.

Make it fun

Play it, don't drill it

Game version

Easy buddy swim: swim in the same lane with a partner at a pace where you can both keep a smooth stroke, and take turns leading. Rest at the wall whenever you need.

Challenge

Pick a level: Less (shorter swims), Core (usual), More (one extra easy length). Compare only with your own last time.

Story

You are explorers crossing the ocean in a small boat at a steady pace.
