The steps

How it works

  1. Set 4 cones in a zigzag line.
  2. Your child holds the ball tight.
  3. They run and dodge around each cone.
  4. Run home at the end. Rest, then go again.

Coaching point

Praise the try: “Great dodging moves!”

Safety: No contact: the cones are the only defenders. Play on grass or a soft, flat, clear space.

Make it fun

Play it, don't drill it

Game version

Play “Carry and Dodge” to a song. When the music plays you play, and when it stops you freeze like a statue, then start again.

Story

You are a dinosaur at a party, and “Carry and Dodge” is your dance.
