The steps

How it works

  1. Lie on your back with the ball in your strong hand, elbow under the ball.
  2. Push the ball straight up about a foot and flick your wrist.
  3. Catch it with the same hand; it should come straight back down.
  4. Do 3 sets of 15 and count how many come straight back.

Coaching point

Elbow under, flick and hold the finish.

Safety: Start low; keep the ball over your chest, never over your face.

Make it fun

Play it, don't drill it

Game version

Shooting gallery: two teams of two take turns at the hoop from marked spots, and each team adds up only its own makes.

Challenge

Pick a spot: Less (close), Core (free-throw line), More (a step back). Beat your own best of makes out of 10.

Story

You are an astronaut and the hoop is the docking port, so every make is a perfect landing.
