The steps

How it works

  1. Stand close to the hoop on the right side holding the ball.
  2. Step with your left foot, lift your right knee and lay the ball high off the square.
  3. Next start two steps away, then add one dribble.
  4. Make 10 from each side.

Coaching point

Right side: left foot, right hand.

Safety: Land softly on both feet with knees over toes, on a non-slip floor. Stop if your knees or ankles hurt.

Make it fun

Play it, don't drill it

Game version

Shooting gallery: two teams of two take turns at the hoop from marked spots, and each team adds up only its own makes.

Challenge

Pick a spot: Less (close), Core (free-throw line), More (a step back). Beat your own best of makes out of 10.

Story

You are an astronaut and the hoop is the docking port, so every make is a perfect landing.
